As an alumnus of Beijing University of Technology, I was invited to lead the redevelopment of the university’s library management system as a pro bono alumni initiative. The project aimed to modernize legacy library operations by rebuilding the system into a cloud-native, maintainable platform that could serve long-term institutional needs. The system was fully re-engineered using Django and deployed on Alibaba Cloud, providing a stable, secure, and scalable infrastructure for daily library operations. It adopts a Class-Based View (CBV) architecture and follows RESTful API design principles to ensure modularity and extensibility. Background maintenance tasks were implemented via Django Signals, while Celery workers handle asynchronous synchronization of borrowing records and inventory data. A real-time data visualization dashboard built with Highcharts.js enables operational monitoring and usage insights. After the core modules were completed, the project was formally handed over to junior alumni contributors for continuous improvement and feature expansion. The system has been running reliably on Alibaba Cloud for over four years, supporting day-to-day library operations with sustained stability and performance.
